Ecommerce CMS and basic XHTML

E-mail Print PDF

This is a basic XHTML site that uses a PayPal shopping cart.

It is very basic but simple to use and navigate. Customers love this site for its ease of use and simplicity.

One of the drawbacks to a site like this is it is hard for store owners who have no kind of background in HTML, CSS, or even higher than average knowledge of HTML tools, like Dreamweaver or Expression Web, have to hire someone to come in and update the website, add new products, and remove old ones.

This is where CMS (Content Management Systems) come in. Once created and a simple 10 min lesson, the client can add and remove products, update the look of the site and even create new content and pages that match the rest of the site with a few button clicks.

Some drawbacks are:

  •  If something does go wrong, and things do happen especially with as many files and components as these types of sites have, you will have to have a professional come in to work on it (the good side is this is rare, where updating your site is frequent)
  • Flexibility of the sites appearance can be complicated or non-existent
